Young man's death in Bakken oilfield subject of lawsuit

While the Bakken oil fields may be a boost to Montana’s economy, some of the work there can be dangerous. Injuries are not uncommon. And one young man who lost his life there earlier this year is now the subject of a wrongful death suit filed by his father.  The lawsuit alleges that the equipment he was using was not appropriate and that the companies were negligent in properly setting up the equipment, leading to the fatal accident.

Montana reaches $5.9 million settlement over Risperdal

The state of Montana was one of many that filed suit against Janssen Ortho LLC and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., over the marketing of Risperdal, an atypical antipsychotic medication that is used to treat various psychological disorders. The drug is the source of several product liability  claims that have either been settled or are still pending.

Number of pedestrian car accident deaths drops in 2013

Residents of Bozeman may feel as if they have been hearing more and more about pedestrian accidents in recent years. This is likely because the number of pedestrian deaths has been on the rise across the country until lately. From 2009 to 2012, the number of pedestrian fatalities increased by 15 percent even though the total number of car accident deaths decreased by 3 percent. However, it does appear that the dramatic increase in pedestrian deaths has now reversed.

Driver using cellphone involved in three-vehicle accident

When a trooper with the Montana Highway Patrol investigates a car accident and says that he has seen fatal crashes with less vehicle damage, those involved in the current accident are lucky to walk away with minor injuries. This recently happened in a three-vehicle car accident near Polson. The trooper said that seatbelts contributed to the lack of serious injury.

Montana man sentenced to 30 years for fatal drunk driving crash

While all fatal car accidents are tragic, those that involve drunk driving are often particularly disturbing. This is because drunk driving accidents are so easily preventable. Montana residents know drunk driving is extremely hazardous. There is no denying it. However, a number of people continue to make the terribly reckless decision to drive while intoxicated, despite the warnings, putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk.

Crude oil product liability in Montana rail transport

In the last half of the year, three train explosions have taken place that could potentially be due to product liability of crude oil contained and mislabeled in tanker cars. Reports indicate that many people in Montana and across the nation have shown concern for the reliability and safe transport of oil via train. An oil and gas worker or train employee who experiences an injury from an accident during crude oil transport could seek compensation for pain and suffering caused by potential product liability.

Pedestrian injured after being hit by sleeping driver in Billings

In car accidents, it should be clear that distracted driving is a form of negligence; drunk diving is a form of negligence; speeding or otherwise driving erratically is a form of recklessness; and failure to yield or stop is negligent. But is falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing into someone else considered negligence? If you can prove that the driver could have prevented the accident, then the answer is yes.

Mother of brain injury patient calls for expanded insurance

The mother of a brain injury victim recently appealed to federal lawmakers to make it easier for brain injury patients to get rehabilitation and treatment. The woman's son suffered a traumatic brain injury in an auto accident, and she says that his insurance, like the insurance of many other brain injury victims, was insufficient to cover the care he continues to need.

Dangerous granola product recalled in Montana

To get a general idea of all the details involved in creating a food product, we can look at the packaging of items in a grocery store. Unfortunately, though, potentially dangerous mishaps occur in packaging food. One example is a recently recalled granola product that was mistakenly packaged and sent to stores in Montana and seven other states.

Medical malpractice: A tale of dentistry gone wrong

The vast majority of medical professionals are responsible and skilled individuals whose primary concern is the well-being of patients. But there other kinds of medical professionals, too, the ones whose practice resembles that of a mad scientist rather than a caring doctor. Bozeman-area residents with medical malpractice concerns may be interested in the story of a dentist whose patients have experienced some less-than-satisfactory dental work.
