Car with highest safety rating is deemed the most crash-prone

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given the Subaru Crosstrek its highest possible safety rating. The Crosstrek, as many drivers in Montana know, boasts great fuel efficiency and is considered relatively inexpensive. However, a recent survey from the auto insurance comparison site Insurify has discovered that the Crosstrek is the most accident-prone vehicle on American roads.

Using data from its database of more than 1.6 million insurance quotes, Insurify was able to compile a list of 10 vehicles that are involved in the greatest number of car crashes. Of the 10, nine are imports with seven from Japan and two from Korea. Overall, 13.64% of all vehicles on the road today have been involved in accidents. As for the Crosstrek, 25.81% of these vehicles have been in crashes.

Coming in second with 25.7% of vehicles affected was the Honda HR-V. This was followed by the Hyundai Elantra GT, Infiniti Q50 and Subaru WRX, respectively. The WRX is also known as having the highest proportion of speeding offenses. Insurify's list continues with the Mazda3, Acura ILX, Lexus CT and Chevrolet Trax, the sole American-made car. It ends with another Hyundai vehicle, the Santa Fe Sport.

One advantage of the Crosstrek is that the occupants are normally able to walk away from accidents due to the vehicle's high safety ratings. Other equally well-known vehicles have fared worse.

When car accidents result in serious injuries, victims may file a claim against the at-fault party's auto insurance company. This is where knowledge of personal injury laws comes in. During a case evaluation, a lawyer may determine if a case can be pursued and how much a client might recover in damages. A successful claim may reimburse the victim for medical bills, vehicle repair or replacement costs and more.
