Pokémon Go the cause of collision with parked police car

Anyone who has seen youth and adults alike walking around Bozeman while staring at their cell phones can attest to the fact that Pokémon Go has quickly become a global phenomenon. While the game has prompted millions to start being more active and become better acquainted with their local communities, problems have arisen with distracted players not being cognizant of their surroundings. Cases have even been reported of people being robbed by while playing the game. Yet even more troubling may be the potential of encountering distracted drivers tracking Pokémon while on the road.

A story recently came out of Baltimore of a near-tragic accident involving a Pokémon Go player and a police car. Local law enforcement officials say this is not the first time they have had to respond to an incident involving the game. However, it may likely be the first to put some of their own in such direct danger. The in-body cameras of officers at the scene show a midsize SUV hitting a parked police car and continuing on. After being stopped, the driver admitted to having been playing the game. What may be the most remarkable aspect of this peculiar case is that none of those in the SUV nor any of the officers standing near the car when it was hit were reported to have been hurt.

While playing Pokémon Go can be fun diversion for all, it may also cause the same types of driving distractions that texting or talking on the phone does. Those who may end up injured in collisions with distracted drivers may need added compensation to cover their accident expenses. Earning such compensation may be possible with the help of an experienced attorney.
