Motorcyclist seriously injured in vehicle collision

According to authorities with the Madison County Sheriff's Office, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident involving a car on Feb. 8. The accident reportedly occurred on Montana Highway 287 around 11:40 a.m. in Ennis.

Reports indicate that the motorcycle driver was traveling east on the highway just prior to the accident. As he neared its intersection with Slade Street in Ennis, a car apparently pulled out in front of him from Slade Street to turn left in order to go west on 287.

The motorcycle driver was apparently unable to avoid the car. The cyclist collided with the front of the vehicle, and the force of the collision reportedly caused the motorcyclist to be thrown through the air. The man, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, suffered trauma to his head as well as other injuries. Responding emergency medical personnel transported both the motorcyclist and the car's driver to Madison Valley Hospital for treatment. Upon arrival, however, the motorcyclist was airlifted and flown to Billings for treatment due to the severity of his head injuries. Law enforcement officers indicated their lack of belief that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The collision is still under investigation at this time.

A person who suffers serious injuries in a collision may undergo significant life changes. Motorcyclists especially are vulnerable in an accident as they do not have the protection afforded by the cage of a car or truck. Many motorcyclists are injured due to another driver's negligent failure to notice them. In those cases, the injured motorcyclist may with to file a personal injury lawsuit against the distracted driver to recover damages. Damages may be available to pay the injured plaintiff's expenses and costs incurred.
